Fake Money
Monday, October 18, 2010 at 7:41AM Amy and I were serving in Cove Kids yesterday morning and one of the 1st graders lost his Cove Cash. This is money that the kids receive when bringing their bible, doing their take-home assignment, etc. and can be used to buy stuff at the Cove Kids Store. This little boy lost a lot of his money yesterday morning and his entire world was collapsing. We tried to tell him that it was ok, that he'd earn more back, that it was really just fake money and didn't hold any value in the "real world". We tried as hard as we could to make him see that it wasn't that important, but it was all useless. He sobbed until his parents came to get him at the end of class. Nothing we could do or say would change anything.
And then it occurred to me that I am no different. I spend so much time managing, planning, and obsessing over our money. I worry about having enough to pay everything. It was as if the Lord was asking me "Why? This is fake money. It doesn't have value in the 'real world'. It's completely useless. Stop giving it the weight that it has in your life and start trusting me to provide.". Something so simple, but so true.
